Interventional Neuroradiology

Specialist minimally invasive treatment of neurovascular conditions of the brain and spine.

Interventional radiology

The specialist Interventional Neuroradiology service in Queen Square provides expert treatment of a range of neurovascular conditions of the brain and spine under radiological guidance, typically x-ray screening.

Led by a team of specialist neuroradiology consultants, the service specialises in the use of minimally invasive image-based procedures for the treatment of intracranial (brain) artery aneurysm and arterio-venous malformations of the brain and spine, as well as stent and balloon based treatment of intracranial atherosclerosis (narrowing of an artery).  More recently, the interventional neuroradiology service has also been involved in mechanical thrombectomy (clot removal) for the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke.

Patients referred for this service have access to the full range of onsite diagnostic procedures, the results from which are discussed at a multi-disciplinary team meeting including Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologists, Consultant Neurosurgeons and Consultant Neurologists.

All of the Interventional Neuroradiology consultants at Queen Square are able to review neurological scans that you’ve already had done and offer opinions on those scans prior to advising on treatment. You’ll need a Doctors referral for this type of consultation.

The Interventional Neuroradiology consultants in Queen Square are highly experienced, passionate and friendly.  More information on the team of Interventional Neuroradiologists can be found here.

Patient testimonial

I really cannot thank you enough for the enormous kindness you and your staff showed me when I came in for my MRI last week. I was extremely nervous, having panicked during an MRI scan before at another hospital. However, your staff put me at ease from the first moment I stepped foot in your department. I have now had my MRI done, and can go back to see my consultant with all of the information he needs. Thank you.
