About Dr Michael Zandi
Dr Michael Zandi MA MB BChir PhD FRCP is Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square and UCLH, London. He is Honorary Associate Professor in the University College London Queen Square Institute of Neurology Department of Neuromuscular Diseases.
He trained in medicine at Clare College, Cambridge, with part II in Experimental Psychology with Barry Everitt, and an elective period as externe in neurology at the Salpêtrière, Paris with Bertrand Fontaine. He completed specialist neurology training with an East Anglian Neuroscience Training Fellowship in Cambridge, Norwich and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. He has a PhD in neuroimmunology (Cambridge), with time spent in the laboratory of Angela Vincent FRS (Oxford Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine).
He runs an autoimmune encephalitis and neuroimmunology clinic and a monthly encephalitis clinical and academic meeting at the National Hospital. He works on neuroimmunological diseases, particularly autoimmune encephalitis (eg. associated with NMDAR, LGI1 or related autoantibodies), paraneoplastic syndromes, neurological infection, inflammatory disorders of nerve and muscle, neuropsychiatric involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus and related conditions.
He holds a weekly neuroimmunology and encephalitis clinic on Monday afternoons, alternate weekly encephalitis clinic Thursday mornings, and Friday afternoon general neurology clinic at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He sees patients with encephalitis and related conditions. If needed, his patients are admitted to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery for investigation or treatments, or attend the day-case unit. He works closely with the UCL and UCLH neuroimmunology and cerebrospinal fluid laboratory and neuromuscular service. He works part-time in general and acute neurology at the Lister Hospital, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust on Tuesdays as honorary consultant neurologist. He provides neurology input to the UCLH systemic lupus erythematosus clinic with Professor David Isenberg. Please contact the secretarial team for more details if required for referrals.
